Notts TUC launches Broxtowe Save Our NHS Campaign - press release

Speakers announced for inaugural Broxtowe Save Our NHS public meeting

The recently established Broxtowe Save Our NHS campaign group will be holding a public meeting to debate the impact of the NHS Health and Social Care Act on local people.

The event will be addressed by:

- Nick Palmer, former Broxtowe MP
- Dr Arun Chopra, Consultant Psychiatrist, Queen's Medical Centre
- Sharon Vasselin, Assistant Branch Secretary, UNISON Nottingham University Hospitals Branch

Time and Venue:

- 7.00pm, Friday 2nd November
- Boat and Horses Public House, Trent Road, Beeston, NG9 1LP

Liam Conway, President of Notts Trades Council, said:

“Broxtowe’s MP Anna Soubry has played a pivotal role in promoting and implementing the Health and Social Care Act. This Act threatens the very basis of our treasured NHS, paving the way for private companies to put profit before patient care.

The Government – and Anna Soubry here in Broxtowe – cannot be allowed to get away with this attack on our vital NHS.

That is why we are holding our first public meeting. We want to generate a public debate about the Act, to discuss how the Act is affecting Broxtowe today and how the future of the NHS in Broxtowe is going to be affected.

Indeed, it has been reported that 3,283 planned operations were cancelled at Nottingham University Hospitals and we are concerned that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

As the NHS’ founder Nye Bevan said ‘The NHS will last as long as there are folks left with the faith to fight for it’ – and we in Broxtowe are determined to fight to save our NHS".
